L.E.A.F.: Learning through Ecological Art Forms in Queer Site-Specific Performances run by Improv for Dance Enthusiasts in Iceland and Nurt Foundation in Poland was a one-and-a-half-year-long project aiming to raise awareness and promote understanding of environmental issues, particularly those related to water, glaciers, and ecology, through eco-somatic, queer performances in public spaces in Iceland.
Our goal was social inclusion and diversity by engaging intergenerational groups of activists, including people from groups subjected to discrimination, especially those from queer communities. The project aimed to create a safe learning environment for both educators and participants of laboratories and workshops. Through laboratories and a collective learning process, we developed four practices on how to engage with the environment in Iceland, such as the Forest, Glacier, Sea, and Cave. Those practices were transformed into scores and translated into an audio walk with performative elements. During the making of the performance, Vikram Pradhan, a filmmaker, documented our efforts and created a 10-minute-long experimental short film.
